Synopsis

This film records a pilgrimage to the Vatican led by Francis Cardinal Spellman of New York and shows some of the important ceremonies that were held in the Vatican City during the Holy Year 1950. It presents a tour of many of the paintings, mosaics, tapestries and other art works displayed in the Vatican City. The Vatican library, containing 74,000 ancient manuscripts and papal seals, is visited, as well as the laboratories in which these treasures are restored. The narrator explains the administration of the Papal state. Facilities such as the Vatican post office, the polyglot press, the radio station and other aspects of life in the Vatican City are shown. Pope Pius XII is seen in several scenes.
