Synopsis
When two travelers, Steve and Speedy, run out of gas in the mountains while on a fishing trip, Speedy grudingly pushes their automobile to a gas station. Steve is in search of his girl friend, Mary Barton, who is running a local lodge with her father Tom. After locating a gas station, Steve and Speedy hear a radio announcement about a police dragnet for a group of payroll bandits who are en route to the border. When Steve and Speedy return to the road, they see a runaway "tallyho" filled with women. Steve rescues the women and finds Mary among them, and she escorts them to the Grey Mountain Lodge, then hires Steve as the tallyho driver. The bandits, meanwhile, arrive at the lodge in search of gasoline for their getaway airplane. Gerald, the gang leader, is Tom's nephew, and forces Tom, who had spent time in prison after being framed by Gerald in a robbery, to give him and his gang a room to use as a hideout. During a dance on the resort's pier, the robbers steal a woman's necklace, which is then passed around the dance. At one point, Speedy has it and sells it to the British gang member for a crisp one-hundred dollar bill. Kelsey, a policeman, eventually pockets the necklace for safe-keeping, but Mary steals it to protect her father from being accused and is caught by Steve. After the necklace is returned to its owner, Speedy shows Steve the money, and they realize Gerald and his men are the robbers. While Speedy calls the police, Steve stalls the gang, but when Speedy blurts out that the police are on their way, a fistfight ensues. As the gang makes its getaway to the airplane, Steve and Speedy fight them in a food delivery truck. Tom then stops the gasoline from arriving, and the police arrest the gang. Later, Speedy pushes Steve and Mary's car after it runs out of gas.
