Synopsis
An ace reporter for a big-town newspaper is crushed to discover that his imperfect health has made him ineligible for service in the Army. After his editor encourages him to convalesce in the country, he decides to move to Meadville and take over the town's newspaper, called The Meadville Patriot . There, he meets and courts the niece of the paper's former publisher, and they soon marry. The union is temporarily threatened when the two take up differing positions on a prohibition issue, which is being sponsored by the town's banker, but the reporter eventually convinces his wife that his stance, against prohibition, is the wiser one. Soon, however, the banker's wife stirs up more trouble, when she rebels against The Meadville Patriot 's editorial policies by urging the advertisers to boycott the paper and her husband to foreclose on the editor's loans. The banker is initially swayed, but after the editor's wife has a baby, is moved to assert himself against his wife and cajole her to apologize. Finally, both the paper and the new family can proceed in peace.
