Synopsis

After a foreword spoken by Chicago municipal judge George L. Quilici, this documentary traces the transformation of pre-war Italy to wartime Italy. Then, using combat footage shot by the Army Signal Corps and the Army and Navy Air Forces, it covers the Italian campaign from the landing in Sicily to the battles of Cassino and Anzio. Included are scenes of the Italian underground, paratroop landings and bombings. The film depicts the mainland invasion, the establishment of military goverments, the fall of Salerno and refugee evacuations. Also shown is the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Sicily.

The Film Daily review notes that What Price Italy? was the "first full-length film dealing with the Italian campaign." It is unclear whether AMCO, which is listed in the The Exhibitor review of the film, is the production company or a regional distributor of the film.
