Synopsis

Thibon, a resourceful Parisian postman, enlists for the French-Indochina War and is sent to Cambodia. He soon becomes disenchanted with the war, however, and is injured in a mine explosion. Thibon is released from the infirmary, and his regiment receives orders to defend Dien Bien Phu, but the group is captured by the Communists. They manage to escape, narrowly missing news of the armistice. Thibon returns to France with a Cambodian woman with whom he has fallen in love.
