Synopsis

Toward the end of the decline of the Sung dynasty in 13th-century China, Wu Sung, the captain of the guards, spurns the advances of his sister-in-law, Pan Chin Lien, known as "The Golden Lotus." She turns to Hsi Men Ching, a wealthy, decadent man, and becomes his fifth wife when her husband is killed. Wu Sung tries to avenge his brother's death in which Hsi Men Ching was implicated, but he is banished to a remote prison. Wu Sung is rescued by revolutionary forces who kill the man responsible for the imprisonment. Pan Chin Lien again tries for Wu Sung's declaration of love, but instead, she receives a sword through her heart.
