Synopsis

Jean-Marc and Brigitte, partners in an unhappy love affair, arrive at an isolated French seaside resort managed by Maria Barneir, whose elderly husband is in poor health. Gradually, Maria falls in love with Jean-Marc. Suddenly her husband dies, and Jean-Marc threatens to tell the police that she hastened his death unless she will let the couple remain at the hotel free of charge; Maria agrees. Bored with the solitude Jean-Marc enjoys, Brigitte performs a striptease for Paul, the bartender. Maria finds them together and seduces Brigitte, hoping to anger Jean-Marc into breaking off the romance, but the plan backfires and Maria is left alone. Resuming their former existence, the lovers soon quarrel and Brigitte leaves. Jean-Marc returns to the resort and makes love with Maria on the beach, but their happiness is short-lived. Brigitte appears with a blackmail scheme of her own, and Maria reveals that she actually did murder her husband. Jean-Marc leaves with Brigitte, and Maria is again left alone.
