Synopsis
Finnegan, an Irish tavernkeeper, dreams of being present at his own riotous wake. He envisions himself as part of the cosmic universe, embracing all of humanity and traversing the whole of history in a neverending process of reawakening. His wife, Anna Livia, and his two sons, Shem and Shaun, also participate in the nightmarish chronicle of the reincarnation of man through the ages. As Finnegan envisions himself a monarch, a business tycoon, and a political candidate, he periodically "wakes" from his death, only to once more lapse into deep slumber. With the coming of the dawn, he is released from the myriad but purging dreams of the night and rises to greet another day.
