Synopsis

The naked corpse of a 26-year-old woman is found in a wooded area of Beverly Hills, and Detective Ben determines that the body is that of Lu Sostlov, the unfaithful wife of an immigrant Czech scientist. The victim's diary, which is filled with tales of her many affairs, allows Ben to reconstruct her past. At the age of 17, Lu is seduced by an opera tenor; her lover is killed, however, by Manning, a lawyer. Following several other illicit interludes in Berlin, Lu travels to the United States, marries the Czech scientist, and enjoys a brief affair with a Las Vegas entertainer before leaving her husband for Peter de Lorm, a German film writer. She has her portrait painted by the wealthy Dr. Steininger, whom she learns is Manning in disguise, and then becomes involved with a Swiss sportswriter, the man who later discovers her corpse. After tracing a lead to the Tiddy Sisters, members of a Las Vegas theatrical troupe, Ben solves the murder.
