Synopsis

Caught in a storm at sea, 10 boys and a dog are shipwrecked on a seemingly deserted island. Several months later, another storm shipwrecks four men, whom the boys mistakenly assume to be dead. Near their cave, the boys discover Kate, a nurse, who tells of the events during a recent storm. Aboard a ship bound for Sydney, a group of British prisoners escaped, killed most of the crew, and were forced to abandon ship when caught in a typhoon. Evans, the ship's carpenter, Kate, and three convicts were the only apparent survivors. Evans, badly wounded and feverish, is rescued and brought back to camp by Moco, a Polynesian youth. That night, the boys hide in the bush and frighten the escapees into a state of panic. In the confusion, two of the men die by their own hands, while the third is captured alive. After Evans realizes that the island is part of the Australian archipelago, the dory of the second wreck is repaired. At sea again, all are rescued.
