Synopsis

Audrey Bedford, released from prison after serving an unjust sentence, moves in with her stepsister Dora. Lacy Marshalt, Dora's criminal lover, recognizes Audrey as the lost daughter of wealthy ex-convict Torrington, whom Lacy had framed. Hoping to come into Torrington's fortune, Lacy persuades his mistress to pose as Audrey. Torrington, however, is not fooled by the fraud and recognizes his true daughter by the scar on her wrist. Audrey is employed as a typist by reclusive fellow tenant Malpas, a faceless freak. Her subsequent disappearance is noted by Scotland Yard Detective Shannon, who has been concerned for her welfare. He discovers that Marshalt is Malpas and learns that the criminal has abducted Audrey with the intention of forcibly marrying her and thereby acquiring Torrington's wealth. After Marshalt is slain Shannon reunites Audrey with her father and proposes marriage.
