Synopsis

Thirteen-year-old Ciske, a victim of parental neglect, becomes neurotic and terrorizes his school. His father, a sailor, is indifferent, but his mother abuses him until he kills her. Ciske is sentenced to the reformatory and is rehabilitated; but after his release, he is tormented about his past by the other children in school and their parents. Ciske's future, though, looks bright and loving, thanks to the help of such sympathetic adults as his teacher and his Aunt Jans, a shopkeeper.
