Synopsis

Professor Theodore Heldt, his young daughter, Fern, and his assistant, Larry Gordon, are shipwrecked on an uncharted island in the South Seas while on a scientific expedition. Marooned together for 10 years, Fern and Larry fall in love and "marry" when the professor dies. Larry fears that he may lose Fern's love if they are rescued and return to civilization, and he angers Fern by failing to light a signal fire when a ship appears on the horizon. The ship, carrying a crew of international smugglers, eventually arrives in the cove. The smugglers' leader, Ortiz, and his lieutenant, Stork, decide to kill Larry and carry away the unsuspecting Fern. Larry leads them to a priceless bed of pearls, and the smugglers eventually kill each other in a gunfight provoked by greed. The ship's captain, Le Guen, fearful of an approaching typhoon, comes ashore to look for the two men, while Fern waits aboard the ship for Larry. Le Guen sees the bodies of the smugglers, and, finding no sign of Larry, sets sail, telling Fern that her "husband" has probably been killed. Fern sights Larry atop a cliff, however, and dives overboard to rejoin him on the island.
