Synopsis

Eguchi, an elderly novelist, is introduced by two friends to a private clubhouse in Kamakura where young virgin girls are drugged into sleep and touched and watched by men too old to do anything else. As a regular patron of the house, Eguchi relives the memories of his youth, when a thwarted love affair led to his girl friend's suicide. At home, Yoshiko, Eguchi's daughter, is unable to choose between two suitors, Higuchi and Yoshida. But Higuchi rapes her, and she immediately decides to marry Yoshida, who accepts her in spite of her misfortune. Both of Eguchi's old friends die at the clubhouse, and as Yoshiko's wedding approaches, the writer can look forward only to a life of loneliness.
