Synopsis

Manuel, whose illegal business deals have lost money, follows the advice of adventurer Mourati and encourages his wife, Tassoula, to become the mistress of Georgian, nephew of a banker. Georgian embezzles money for Manuel's business but is found out by his uncle, who threatens to arrest him and Manuel. To avoid prison, Georgian and Manuel hire Mourati to murder the elderly banker. After the banker's death, the three divide Georgian's inheritance. When Tassoula discovers their guilt, she entrusts her young brother to his teacher and prepares to leave the country. Although she refuses Georgian's affections, Tassoula is raped by Mourati. She subsequently consults the teacher, and, following his advice, informs the police of the banker's murder. Exonerated at the trial, Tassoula retires to the island of Hydra, where she is visited by the teacher, who assures her a happy future.
