Synopsis

Beginning with the 1947 Nuremberg Trial and testimonies of such defendants as Göring, Hess, von Papen, and von Ribbentrop, the film traces the early development of the Nazi war machine in Germany. There are scenes of Hitler's rapid rise to power, his promise of a 1,000-year Reich, the African campaign, and the fighting in Holland, Poland, and France. Also shown are newsreel shots of the atrocities committed in the German concentration camps, documentation shown as evidence to the Nazi war criminals during the Nuremberg Trial, and a sequence in which 100,000 German prisoners captured at the Battle of Stalingrad are marched through the streets of Moscow. As the trial ends, newsreel footage shows two of the Nuremberg defendants being hanged.
