Synopsis

Newly arrived in Paris from the country, Irene is befriended by Mario who invites her to dinner and afterwards brings her to a roominghouse. They meet for lunch the next day, and Mario buys Irene a wardrobe. Irene falls in love with Mario and, believing he wants to marry her, becomes his mistress. Olga, a friend of Mario's who lives at the roominghouse, persuades Irene to take up prostitution in order to prevent Mario from committing a robbery to get enough money to open a small business for himself and Irene. Irene soon becomes trapped in the vice ring and is sent to Hamburg, Holland, and Mexico, always with the promise that Mario will join her. Finally, in Hong Kong Irene is drugged until she becomes an addict. A well-meaning sea captain persuades Irene to tell her story to Interpol when she learns that Mario has betrayed her. Then, resigned to her predicament, Irene is confident that the drugs will help her die quickly.
