Synopsis

Ferdinand Bluhme, a juvenile court judge, believes that young offenders should be given a chance to reform. He puts his principles to the test on Inge Schumann, a youngster convicted of blackmail. To remove her from the unhealthy influence of her boyfriend Kurt, the leader of a teenage gang, Judge Bluhme at first sentences Inge to 8 months in prison, but he revokes the sentence when she threatens to commit suicide. He finds her a job as a waitress at the boardinghouse where he lives, although the owner, Elisabeth Winkler, objects to having a criminal in her house. At Kurt's instigation, Inge steals from a boarder, but after Judge Bluhme covers up for the theft, Inge begins to respond to his kindness and secretly falls in love with him. She finally breaks with Kurt when she learns that he is trying to blackmail Judge Bluhme by accusing the judge of having an affair with her. Judge Bluhme goes to the gang's hideout and persuades them to mend their ways and start a new life.
