Synopsis
This documentary depicts aspects of Paris which normally remain hidden from view. There are scenes of transvestites in bars attempting to pick up unsuspecting men, and of prostitutes using an ambulance as a mobile brothel. A circus orphan gives a party for the freaks who reared her; a young woman sells a piece of her skin tattooed with a picture of the Eiffel Tower; at night, upper-class women dressed as birds and deer are hunted through the woods; ice-packed corpses are imported from India for medical study; a group of interns at a party cover a nude young woman with jelly; a widow orders a lifelike statue of her dead husband; vagabonds seek shelter in the famous Paris sewers, which they share with the rats; a "sculptor" allows his beloved bees to swarm over him; old horses are brought to a factory for slaughter. Cult practices such as moon and egg worship, navel contemplation, and voodoo are also examined. A man navigates the Seine in his private submarine; another attends a school for seduction; and a secret gypsy restaurant serves roast bat to a group of gourmets.
