Synopsis

Nadine Anderson, wife of Eliot Anderson, wealthy Swedish ambassador to Greece, is sexually unfulfilled because of her husband's preference for his male secretary, Martin. During the day Nadine lives as a society hostess, but at night she rents a room in the harbor area of Athens, to engage in prostitution. There she falls in love with Nikos, a dock worker, whose sister, Elektra, a stripteaser and prostitute, discovers their relationship and Nadine's identity. Elektra blackmails Nadine into hiring her as a personal maid at a high salary and during a yachting trip falls in love with Martin. Eliot becomes jealous and fires Elektra, who informs him of his wife's extra-marital activities. Eliot agrees to allow Nadine to leave with Nikos, but Elektra exposes Nadine's true status to her brother. Enraged, Nikos hits his sister, and she accidentally falls to her death, thus destroying any chance that Nadine and Nikos will be reunited.
