Synopsis
Although Helen enjoys a chaste relationship with her boyfriend, Bob, she cannot accept his marriage proposal because she secretly enjoys being picked up by strangers. One evening in a cocktail lounge, Helen meets Clark, a procurer, who convinces her to try prostitution, arguing that she should be reimbursed for her sexual favors. Helen agrees and goes to work for Sylvia, a madam, but after a few assignments with older men, Helen begins to have doubts and accepts the advice of her roommate, Wanda, that she seek psychiatric help. Sylvia convinces Helen to try one more customer before quitting, but the man's sexual demands repulse her, and Helen leaves in disgust. Helen explains her problem to the psychiatrist and screams with frustration when he suggests they meet after hours. Later, Bob is called to the police station where he is informed of Helen's suicide. Clark and Sylvia are arrested, and Bob learns of Helen's secret life.
