Synopsis

Racketeer Walter Dorland plans to rid himself of his wife, Margaret, by employing Miklos, a sex offender, to murder her. Miklos, who has recently lured his caseworker into the woods and raped her, is put under a spell of obedience to Dorland by Korba, a hypnotist whom Dorland has blackmailed into helping him. While Dorland establishes an alibi in Montreal, Miklos goes to northern Ontario where Margaret is spending the weekend at a secluded cabin. Miklos, acting under hypnotic command, goes to Margaret's bedroom and attacks her, but he is so intent on gaining sexual satisfaction before killing her that she is able to knock him out and escape. She flees through the woods all night and, exhausted, falls asleep in a barn. At dawn, Miklos finds her, but in the ensuing struggle he stumbles from the hayloft and is killed. Dorland returns to the cottage expecting to find himself a widower, but he is instead greeted by his wife who is wielding the gun Dorland had given Miklos. She kills him and wanders, in a daze, toward a lake.
