Synopsis

While rehearsing a crime skit in the bedroom of a boardinghouse, three unemployed actors--Marcella, Ugo and Raimondo--are observed by a neighbor, Arturo, a butcher, who assumes that Ugo and Raimondo are professional killers, and Marcella their victim. Since Arturo would like his unfaithful wife, Annalisa, eliminated, he offers to hire the two men to do the job. Hoping to obtain a fee without actually killing anyone, the actors agree. Unbeknownst to them, Annalisa and her lover plan to get rid of Arturo by causing him to have a heart attack. Following several mishaps in which the individuals become involved in each other's plots, Arturo actually dies of a heart attack. When the police become suspicious, Annalisa and her lover decide they must murder Ugo and Raimondo to protect themselves. They lure the actors to a sausage factory and attempt to hurl them into a meat-mincing machine. But Annalisa and her companion are apprehended and accused of murdering Arturo, a crime they did not actually commit. Ugo and Raimondo return to their profitless acting careers.
