Synopsis
At 25, Michael attempts to break away from his over-protective mother and spends an evening making the rounds of Greenwich Village bars. He picks up Liz, a model, and makes love with her in the apartment of her lesbian friend, Maxine. Liz leads Michael to believe that their affair is her first, although she regularly entertains buyers, good-naturedly accommodating their demands in order to help Sam, her middle-aged employer. In spite of Liz's efforts, business declines, and Sam asks her to approach Mr. Contronia for financial help. Liz discovers that Contronia is a gangster, and she barely escapes being raped when she rejects his advances. Maxine is beaten to death by Contronia's gang when she refuses to help them find Liz. Feeling responsible for her friend's death, Liz confesses to Michael that she is a prostitute. He asks her to forget the past, but she dashes into the street and is killed beneath the wheels of a speeding car.
