Synopsis
Wax salesman Harvey Brubaker is shy and retiring with his beautiful wife Mary; and he falls to daydreaming fantasies in which he rescues beautiful women in distress. In one such dream, Harvey is selling wax to a wealthy sultan. Harvey recognizes his secretary among the sultan's harem girls, and he sets out to rescue them all from their evil master. While Harvey is dreaming, Pete Boswell, a footloose con artist is romancing Mrs. Brubaker. Pete drops in at the Brubaker home, reads Harvey's wife Mary some of his poetry, and seduces her. In Harvey's next fantasy, he encounters a mad scientist who is conducting experiments on a group of women, all dyed different colors. Harvey liberates the women after a struggle with the scientist, who tries unsuccessfully to turn Harvey into a monster by spraying him with a chemical. Harvey and Pete meet at a neighborhood bar and strike up a friendship. Pete boldly invites himself home to supper with Harvey; and later when Pete begins to boast about his afternoon's activities, Mary faints. The two comrades go out on the town, and soon Pete's boldness rubs off on Harvey: he returns home to his wife with greater self-confidence.
