Synopsis
In southeastern Ohio, an old hillbilly, once a contented coal miner, must earn his living by subsistence farming. His eldest son, Carl, does most of the farm work, while his wife spends her time flirting in the local tavern. Jessie, the eldest daughter, has an affair with Carl, her half-brother. Although he flees to Columbus when their father learns that Jessie is pregnant, Carl returns to take Jessie away from the hostile environment.
