Synopsis

While investigating the murder of a housemaid, Detective Kikuchi is implicated by a trap set by the killer. The detective is sentenced to a prison term and the case is closed. Several years later, released on parole, Kikuchi joins a private detective agency and begins to work in his spare time on solving the murder. Hired by Mitsue Takazawa, the wife of the chairman of a cartel, to investigate her husband's private life, Kikuchi learns that Mitsue is actually after information beneficial to her husband in his dealings with Shibata, the president of a large trading firm. Kikuchi continues investigating the murder even when Setsuko, a woman with whom he is in love, becomes implicated. He finally deduces that Shibata murdered his own housemaid because she knew he was blackmailing Mitsue's husband, who had hastened the death of his foster father to gain control of the cartel. Shibata's body is found, and Kikuchi sets a trap for the second killer. [Sources do not disclose the film's ending.]
