Synopsis
Ayako, a secretary to the president of a cartel, carries on a secret romance with a clerk in her office. To help pay off her brother's gambling debts, her father steals money from his own firm, planning to replace it with his retirement allowance. Ayako in turn pilfers the same amount from her office and orders her father to repay the money he has stolen. Caught replacing the money, he is fired without a pension. Ayako's boyfriend suggests she become her boss's mistress and milk him for the stolen money; the arrangement works until the boss's wife discovers them together. Ayako then obtains work in a bar through Natsuko, a bar maid, but her affair with a stockbroker ends abruptly when Natsuko, whose lover has deserted her, kills herself. Eager to rid herself of her parasitic boyfriend, Ayako invites him to her apartment. The stockbroker arrives at the same time and in the fight that ensues Ayako smashes the broker over the head with a bottle. At the police station, her father can only wring his hands, while Ayako looks optimistically to the future.
