Synopsis

In the small Missouri town of Fraserville during post-Civil War days, Sheriff Jess Kinley is considered a coward for not taking a stand against four outlaws. Anna-Lisa, who is in love with Kinley, is the only one who remains loyal to him. Outlaw chief Abel Dragna threatens to expose Kinley's former association with his gang and to harm his family should the sheriff take action against the gunslingers. After the outlaws attack a widow and a minister and then kill the latter's son, Kinley shoots the guilty gunman. The townspeople, however, still are displeased; Kinley's badge is removed, his past is revealed, and his wife, Lily, deserts him. Just as Kinley is about to leave town, Anna-Lisa is murdered. Heading off an angry mob, Kinley kills the other outlaws, winning back the respect of the townspeople and the love of his wife.
