Synopsis

Claus Baade, a young Communistic government worker in the German Democratic Republic, is sent to a small farming village to implement the collective system. The farmers have not agreed to collectivize their lands, and one of them, Hermann Gueden, fights with Baade. Gueden decides to leave Communist society and is given a ride to West Berlin by Doris Lange, a Swiss journalist. With Baade, who has fallen out of favor with the Communists, the two manage to escape over the border into the free city.
