Synopsis

SEPTEMBER 16: A pictorial record of a day in the Soviet Union in 1959, touching on events and activities of people in different regions and walks of life--farmers, scientists, fashion models, housewives, veterans, etc. Included are shots of Premier Nikita Khrushchev embarking for his trip to New York, and scenes of the young actress Tatyana Samoylova at work on a new film. CONCERT OF YOUTH: A trip from city to city along the Volga River. Students from each region give musical performances, including folk dancing and ballet. An excerpt from Khachaturyan's ballet Spartacus ( Spartak ) is included.
