Synopsis
Along the Texas-Mexican border in the years following the Civil War, a band of former Confederate soldiers under the leadership of an ex-officer, Colonel Blake, terrorize the countryside. As one of their number faces a military firing squad, he is rescued by Stuart, a stranger who claims to know the hiding place of a fabulous treasure in gold hidden by General Beauregard. After proving himself in several tests of courage, Stuart joins the marauders in their raids. They encounter Manuela, a fiery young woman, and Blake appropriates her as his girl friend. Stuart claims that the treasure is hidden in an Indian burial ground near the town of Durango. Blake comes to realize that Stuart is actually a bounty hunter who has planned to lure him into a trap. Blake kills the town sheriff and leaves Stuart tied in a barn which he sets afire; but Manuela, who is actually Stuart's partner, slips him a knife which enables him to escape. Gunning down a posse, the outlaws make their way to the burial ground and unearth the "treasure"--worthless Confederate money. Stuart arrives and shoots the ex-soldiers in turn, leaving the wounded Blake to the vengeance of his victims' widows. Stuart then collects the bounty money and rides off with Manuela.
