Synopsis
During World War II, Sugako becomes the bride of a young professor. Although her husband is completely preoccupied with his work, Sugako remains faithful. During the occupation, Sugako opens a restaurant, supplied by the black market, and takes up with a series of men. Discovering her infidelity, the husband forces her to reveal that she was raped by an elderly uncle in her youth, which resulted in an obsession with death that surfaces every time she makes love. The couple start life over, but the obsessed Sugako soon dies, hoping that her husband may find a better woman.
