Synopsis

In late 18th-century Edo, Shigetsuin, cousin to the Shogun, is made mother superior of the convent at Hosho Temple as punishment for her misdeeds. Oharu pretends to join the convent in order to investigate her brother's mysterious disappearance in the convent area. Her suspicions are confirmed when she discovers that Shigetsuin has continued her evil ways inside the convent walls, luring young men to her and murdering them after sexually satisfying herself. Oharu decides to kill the mother superior, but Shigetsuin herself sets fire to the temple and perishes in the blaze.
