Synopsis

Mumyo Taro, a thief, lives in an old temple with Aizen, a hedonistic woman who totally dominates him. His wife, Kaede, discovers their hiding place and refuses to leave Taro, becoming involved with the couple in a relationship of love and hate. A high priest happens upon the temple, and when Taro attempts to steal his golden image of Buddha, the priest utters an incantation which leaves Taro helpless. Aizen enters the room and the priest starts with recognition, for she is the same woman over whom he had once fought a duel and entered the priesthood. Aizen leaves with the priest, assuring Taro she will gain revenge for him. A while later Taro and Kaede find Aizen standing over the priest, who is groveling at her feet. Suddenly regaining his wits, the priest bites out his tongue and dies, as Aizen exults over his body. Taro, revolted by the scene, kills Aizen with his sword. The next morning, dressed as a priest, Taro leaves the temple with Kaede.
