Synopsis

Joe, a drifter who dreams of emigrating to Brazil, lives with Kanako, a fashion model who supports him. Kanako has sex with the son of a business tycoon after he promises to give Joe a good job. Bored and desperate, Joe picks up a married woman when she flirts with him in a nightclub and, at the woman's request, kills her husband. Pursued by the police, Joe takes as hostage a beggar who witnessed the murder. Together they build a raft for Joe to sail to Brazil. Joe telephones Kanako, asking her to join him; and she rushes to him, unaware that she has been followed by the police. In anger Joe shoots her, and, realizing later that she did not betray him, he takes her aboard the raft. Knowing that Kanako is dying and that he may not be able to leave the harbor, he nevertheless launches the flimsy raft.
