Synopsis
In 19th-century Morocco, amid festivities celebrating the end of combat between the sultan and those who have revolted against him, several rebels are slaughtered by the sultan's men. Among those who refuse to forget the massacre are rebel leader Ajabar; his next-in-command, Mohamed; and the mysterious "Red Sheik," who rides through the streets at night calling on the people to avenge the massacre. Fifteen years later a Spanish architect, Ruiz, takes refuge in Ajabar's camp when he is caught in a sandstorm en route to visit Hassan, who has usurped the sultan's throne. There Ajabar's daughter, Amina, prevents the suspicious Mohamed from killing their visitor, and Ruiz continues his journey to the city. Several rebels are later attacked by Hassan's forces, and their lives are saved only when the Red Sheik appears; and Amina, having been abandoned in the desert on orders from Hassan's ex-wife, Rammel, is rescued by Ruiz. Meanwhile, the Sultan's men have lost a series of battles with Ajabar's men, forcing Hassan to take shelter in a fort, which is eventually blown up by the Red Sheik. The mysterious figure is revealed to be Ruiz, seeking vengeance for the death of his father, and after killing Hassan in hand-to-hand combat, Ruiz and Amina are married.
