Synopsis
During the last days of World War II, troop morale begins to lag. In New Guinea, a staff officer asks Sergeant Kato, an actor and scriptwriter in civilian life, for suggestions on entertaining the troops. Kato produces a play with soldiers volunteering their services as actors and stagehands, and the performance is such a success that the garrison commander orders a modest theater be constructed for future performances. Dubbed the "Monoquari," the theater presents entertainment to enthusiastic military audiences. As the Allies threaten to invade New Guinea, the Monoquari's final performance features a snow fall evoking memories of Japan.
