Synopsis
On 5 July 1958, Capt. De Vere Baker, his three-man crew, and a dog set out from Redondo Beach, California, on the raft Lehi IV in Baker's fourth attempt in 10 years to prove that the Pacific Islands probably were settled by people who drifted there from surrounding continents on crafts similar to Lehi IV , a single-sailed vessel measuring 18 by 24 feet. Sixty-nine days later, they have survived a violent storm and are picked up by a Japanese fishing boat off the Hawaiian island Maui and towed into Lahaina.
