Synopsis
In China during the early days of the Republic, lovers Lo Hsiang-chi and Mei Pao are forced to separate by a lecherous colonel. Their lives are wrought with tragedy as they are forced into clandestine meetings, infants are changed in their cradles, and one of the pair has his face scarred by an angry warlord. The lovers are separated for 17 years, only to be reunited on their deathbed.
