Synopsis

Hajime Goshokawa, a young truckdriver, is persuaded to take a physical examination while visiting a friend in the hospital. Although he is ordered back for further testing, Hajime, who is suspicious of doctors and hospitals, does not return to the doctor until persuaded to do so by Nami, a nurse to whom he is attracted. Unaware that he has leukemia, Hajime continues courting Nami until an automobile accident serves to disclose the nature of his illness. Desperate for a cure, Hajime goes from hospital to hospital until he finally realizes that there is no hope for his recovery. Nami takes him to her home in a river valley, where the two lovers spend the last few months of Hajime's life.
