Synopsis

Hsiu Hsiu, a young shepherdess, falls in love with Liu Ta-lung, a boatman. Hsiu's father is a compulsive gambler, and when he falls into debt, Tiger Tseng, a hunter who also wants Hsiu, offers to pay off the debt. Hsiu rejects his advances until she mistakes Liu's helpful gestures toward a local widow for romantic advances. To make the boatman jealous, she becomes more friendly toward Tiger, but the widow explains the circumstances to Hsiu, and once again she spurns the hunter. Liu takes on a dangerous assignment through pirate-infested waters in order to pay off Hsiu's father's debt, but when he fails to return after many days, Hsiu gives up hope and agrees to marry Tiger. On the wedding day, Liu appears and, after a fierce fight with Tiger, wins back his sweetheart.
