Synopsis

While on a ferryboat ride, the Yellow Girl sets down a basket containing sea gulls cut from cloth. When the basket is accidentally kicked into the water, the Yellow Girl and the White Boy go after it in a rubber raft. They land on a magical island, find the basket, and open it to see the cloth sea gulls fly out. After being joined by the Black Boy, who arrives on a raft made of a door, the children discover that they can make an entire forest materialize by drawing trees, and that by means of a map, they can summon children from other nations of the world; soon all the children are setting out for the "seventh continent," and panic seizes the grownups when there are no children left. An international conference is convened to study the situation, but it becomes entangled in bureaucratic red tape. As the adults become more bogged down by their inability to reach an agreement that would enable them to bring happiness (children) back into their lives, the youngsters continue to lead carefree lives, disturbed only by a beautiful conch shell which projects a loud and discordant sound. The Yellow Girl, the White Boy, and the Black Boy decide to return to the real world to see if something can be done to fix the shell. The grownups, incapable of achieving harmony in their own lives, are stymied by the challenge of achieving harmony in a simple shell. Disillusioned by the adults, the children embark once more for the "seventh continent."
