Synopsis
Eli, a young teacher in Jerusalem, receives a telephone call from Noa, a former girl friend, who asks him to look after her 3-year-old son, Shuy, for a few days. Recalling the night that he and Noa spent together in a kibbutz several years before, Eli consents to the request in the hope that it will rekindle their affair, even though his romantic life is already complicated by the fact that Yael, his current mistress, is also being pursued by his best friend, Zvi. When Shuy responds to his temporary guardian with warmth and affection, Eli finds himself speculating on the possibility that he is the child's father. His reaction to Shuy wavers between love and hate because the child is Noa's, but he cannot claim him as his own. When Noa avoids any contact during the 3 days that Eli cares for the boy, Eli gradually develops an acute hostility toward the child and places him in dangerous situations, even letting loose a poisonous snake in the room where Shuy is sleeping. After Zvi is nearly bitten by the snake, Eli regains his balance and, realizing that the past cannot be recaptured, accepts the fact that Noa is lost to him.
