Synopsis
In order to awaken a capitalist and a laborer to the folly of a quarrel over their children, a priest tells them, in strict confidence, the story of Gordon Leigh, the son of a wealthy man, and Marjorie Manning, the daughter of an impoverished florist. The children are playmates until Leigh objects to his son's association with the poor little girl. Years later, Marjorie is living with her father, now a prosperous man, when he decides to marry the cruel Perda Brentane. To escape her stepmother, the girl leaves home and becomes a nurse. At the hospital, Marjorie meets her former childhood friend, now a doctor, and they renew the friendship which grows into love. Perda once loved Gordon, and her anger at learning of his intended marriage leads her to shoot the young man and kill herself. Manning is accused of the crime and about to be electrocuted when Gordon comes out of his coma and announces that Perda was his assailant. Manning is then saved and the quarrelers are so moved by the story that they allow their children to continue playing together.
