Synopsis

The plot of this film revolves around the morganatic marriage between a Grand Duke and a French peasant, who later abandons her young child. Life in the Parisian, pre-Revolution underworld is featured, including the customs and habits of the Apaches, a notorious gang of criminals.

Although this film appears to have been at least partially shot, no information on its completion or release has been located. This film was to be the first production of the Hub Cinemagraph Co., which was to specialize in adapting French classics. According to production news items, the film's exteriors were shot in New England and the interiors in the Hub studios in Winthrop, MA. Production was to last for two months and include a cast of thirty principals. Among the many other versions of the novel are: a 1912 French film Les Mystères de Paris, directed by Albert Capellani; the 1922 Mastodon Films release The Secrets of Paris, starring Lew Cody and directed by Kenneth Webb (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.4889); the 1937 French film Les Mystères de Paris, directed by Felix Gandera; and a 1962 French-Italian co-production of the same title, starring Jean Marais and directed by André Hunebelle.
