Synopsis

For the sum of one million dollars, Elizabeth Ferris' parents sell her into a marriage of convenience to millionaire Ralph Dunham. Dunham, who believes that everyone can be bought, discovers that he can not purchase Elizabeth's love. Harboring no affection for her husband, Elizabeth falls in love with young lawyer Craig Clifton. Learning of this, Dunham decides to sacrifice his own desire and grant Elizabeth her freedom. When Elizabeth confides in her lifelong minister, Rev. Thomas Cartright, that her marriage has been a mockery, he impresses upon her the sanctity of marriage and prevails upon Elizabeth to stop divorce proceedings. Moved by the reverend's words, Elizabeth goes to Dunham just as he is about to leave and convinces him to begin a married life of love rather than convenience.
