Synopsis
When Ruth Sumner's brother Dick commits suicide because of his gambling losses to Ruth's husband Neil, she leaves her husband and takes their little daughter Cynthia with her. Traveling to Europe, Ruth lives on what she believes are her own funds, not knowing that Dick had squandered the family estate and that Neil had then replenished the money with his own fortune. In the absence of his family, Neil becomes a member of the fast set until Cynthia visits years later, after developing into a young woman. Realizing that his friends are not fit companions for Cynthia, Neil and Ruth agree that the child must not see her father again. This harsh situation is remedied when Fellowes, the family attorney, brings the Sumners together in London, and Ruth, learning of her brother's thievery and her husband's generosity, reconciles with Neil.
