Synopsis

Noel Ferrers uses Marian Beaumont to cheat pawnbroker Robert Morris out of thousands of dollars, and by threatening to expose Marian to the authorities, Noel hopes to compel her sister Gwendolin to marry him. The plan goes smoothly until Captain Dorian March, Gwendolin's sweetheart, gathers up all the evidence that implicates Marian and then joins the Canadian army. The troop ship taking him to the front sinks, however, and Noel, only momentarily deterred, once again threatens Gwendolin with Marian's exposure. Just before she agrees to marry him, though, Dorian, who was believed drowned, is rescued by a steamer and returns to Gwendolin, after which Robert is reimbursed and Marian's name is cleared. Then, Gwendolin does indeed get married, but to Dorian instead of Noel.
