Synopsis

In South Africa, Sylvia Daunt and her father discover a huge diamond and then quickly travel to the United States in order to get away from the other miners who plot to take the jewel from them. The miners follow the couple to America, however, and after killing the father, they imprison Sylvia in a large house. Robert Ledyard, who lives next door, realizes that Sylvia is being held against her will and so helps her escape with the gem and then marries her. On a train at the beginning of their honeymoon, a man approaches Robert and insists that he hand over the diamond. Meekly, Robert does so, and then, after the man leaves and Sylvia begins to wonder about the man she married, Robert shows his wife the real jewel and tells her that he gave the stranger one made of paste.
